The American Nurses Association (ANA) has created the Election 2008 Action Center as a one-stop resource to help you find information about the 2008 elections. We are providing resources which will help you participate as a registered voter, and educated voter, and an active voter.
One of the highlights of the 2008 Elections is that this is a Presidential election year. The ANA is participating via the ANA-Political Action Committee (ANA-PAC) and its Endorsement Process. Check out 2008 Presidential: The Road to The White House. We have issued an ANA questionnaire to all of the candidates and will post their responses about policy issues that impact nursing and health care. Moreover, view how the 2008 Presidential Candidates' health care plans measure up in relation to ANA Policy. And we also have included a section on the Presidential Election Process in the hope that it will help you better understand how this lengthy and complex process leads to one ultimate victor.
The Voting Basics section of the Elections 2008 Action Center includes election dates as well as critical deadlines for registering to vote and/or request absentees ballots. There are also phone numbers and links to your state election officials, who can answer any specific questions you might have about elections where you are.
And although the presidential race is receiving so much attention, we want to also remind you that all 435 seats of the U.S. House of Representatives and 33 U.S. Senate offices are up for election this cycle. The ANA-PAC supports and/or endorses candidates who have a record of supporting ANA policy interests or who have expressed positions that are consistent with ANA policy interests. On the 2008 Congressional Races page, we will be posting information about the ANA Endorsement Process for congressional candidates, lists of the candidates ANA has supported and/or endorsed, and Vote Scorecards for incumbent candidates.
